Summary/objective: The Refinement Lab Director is an exempt position tasked with short path distillation and isolation of Cannabinoids derived from hemp, primarily CBD from CO2 extraction.

Essential functions:

  • Develops and maintains cannabinoid extraction, distillation, isolation, and testing operations along with carrying out daily related laboratory operations
  • Perform safety and functionality checks on all refinement equipment
  • Implement best practices as well as standard operating procedures in an effort to maintain a safe and productive work environment
  • Plan and manage production schedules to leverage capacity, labor, and materials to meet volume demands, labor costs, and quality standards
  • Maintains compliance with all FDA, cGMP, state and federal regulations, and record keeping duties
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Perform safety and functionality checks on all refinement equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures in a factory/manufacturing environment
  • Strong leader with the ability to motivate a team of 10+ employees
  • Excellent budget, planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with experimental design, data collection, and interpretive skills
  • Ability to adapt and react quickly to change, as well as communicate these changes in an effective manner
  • Must be able to translate complex concepts to non-scientist colleagues
  • Familiar with quality standards and health and safety regulations on a federal and state level
  • Familiar with CO2 extraction

Supervisory responsibilities:

Supervise all employees within the Refinement umbrella of the organization

Work Environment:

This job operates in a factory/manufacturing facility. The temperature inside the facility can fluctuate based on the current weather conditions. Operation of complex and potentially hazardous equipment is required.

Physical Demands:

This position requires that individuals stand and sit for long periods of time. Individuals are required to repetitively bend, stoop, reach, and climb. The individual must also have the ability to spend long periods of time in a sedentary position in front of a computer monitor.  Individuals must have the ability to lift 50 lbs up to 15 times per day. Shifting, pushing, moving of other heavy items is also expected.

Position type and expected hours of work:

This is a full-time position, work hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Hours outside of normal work hours will be expected at times. These hours could be in the evening or weekend as needed.


Some travel will be expected for this position for seminars, trainings, or other industry related events

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master/PHD preferred)
  • 1-2 years Lab Experience
  • Past experience in pharma, biotech, or dietary supplement manufacturing industry
